chapters 12-13

In these chapters Matty was in the woods making is way back to his old village. He had gone this way through the woods many times and something about it was different - it was darker and seemed dead. Matty had loved coming through the forest because it was a bright and happy place. Matty began to recall memories of his childhood at his other village because he was coming close to his old village. As he entered his old village he started to run towards Kira's house. She opened the door as he was starting to knock on it. Matty found out what Kira's wonderful gift was and we find out what Matty's is.

chapters 10-11

In these chapters the meeting was in session. Matty never knew so many people who would have given up their inner selves for a sewing machine, gaming machine, or anything else. While the meeting was going on he saw many familiar faces but they had changed - even Ramon's mom had changed, instead of seeing if her daughter was o.k., like she usually did, she shook her and told her to be quiet. Matty felt strange knowing there was nothing he, Seer, or Leader could do anymore. While walking home defeated Matty and Seer were talking about the decision to close Village forever. Matty was to leave the next day to go and deliver messages to the other villages and get Seer's daughter Kira. When Matty left he kept in mind that the forest was thickening and he was to be very careful.

chapters 8-9

In chapters eight and nine Matty finally gets the puppy and Leader tells Matty that the dogs true name is Frolic. When Matty tries to see if the puppy will listen the puppy does everything Matty says, and when Matty says Frolic the puppy looks up to see whats happening. Although in chapter nine the meeting is approaching fast and Matty and Jean are talking more and more to each other. The new woman in the village came and talked to Matty because she wanted to know if Village was closing and she was worried for her younger children who were supposed to be coming to Village. No one knows what will happen to Village.

chapters 6-7

In these chapters you will find out about what happens when people go to the trade market. Matty goes to observe for Seer, because Seer thinks something wrong happens when people go to trade. What Matty observes is very different than what he expected. Everyone is so uptight and silent and even when the trading begins things don't change. And the two things Matty remembers are Mentor asking for 'the same thing as last time' and his birthmark being completely gone.

chapters 4-5

In these chapters you will get a hint of what the secret Matty is hiding is and you will find out why the book keeps mentioning the frog. Matty has an amazing gift and he intends to use it for good. While Matty keeps trying to convince Seer to trade something for a gaming machine, Seer's mind is on the meeting the council called about the selfishness coming upon Village. Things are starting to go wrong starting with Matty holding his secret.

chapters 2-3

In these chapters you will realize that there are rules just as in The Giver. Matty was once a sly kid who got away with things until he came to live in Village. In Village there are no secrets and everyone is honest. Matty was o.k. with things until he had a secret he just couldn't tell anyone. In this chapter the book also refers to the frog again, so I guess the frog has something to do with the secret.
